Séance d'information de l'ONU sur les droits de l'homme par la porte-parole Liz Throssell sur le Sénégal
«Nous sommes profondément préoccupés par la situation tendue au Sénégal suite à la suspension de l'élection présidentielle prévue pour le 25 février,»a déclaré Throssell.
«Au moins trois jeunes hommes ont été tués lors des manifestations et au moins 266 personnes ont été arrêtées à travers le pays, y compris des journalistes,»a déclaré le porte-parole.
Les enquêtes sur les meurtres doivent être rapides, approfondies et menées de manière indépendante, et les responsables doivent être tenus pour responsables. Les autorités devraient également garantir le respect du droit pour les personnes arrêtées lors des manifestations.
«Face à la montée des tensions et aux informations faisant état de manifestations prévues, il est crucial que les autorités ordonnent de manière catégorique aux forces de sécurité de respecter et de garantir les droits de l'homme, y compris les droits à la liberté d'expression, d'association et de réunion pacifique,»a-t-elle déclaré.
«Nous exhortons également tous les acteurs à s'abstenir de recourir à la violence,»a déclaré Throssell.
«Compte tenu des défis et des préoccupations liés aux circonstances entourant le report de l'élection, le Haut-Commissaire des Nations unies aux droits de l'homme, Volker Türk, appelle le gouvernement à veiller à ce que le dialogue national proposé soit le plus large possible et garantisse la participation effective des groupes d'opposition, des femmes, des jeunes et des groupes marginalisés,»a déclaré Throssell.

UN Human Rights Council holds special session on Sudan as mass atrocities reported in El Fasher
The UN Human Rights Council convened an emergency session on Friday on the situation in and around El Fasher, Sudan, following reports of mass killings in the North Darfur capital. States passed a resolution that will mandate an investigation into likely mass atrocities during the capture of El Fasher by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on 26 October.

Sudan: UN Raises Alarm Over Mass Atrocities in El Fasher as Survivors Report Executions, Killings and Rapes
More details continue to emerge about atrocities committed during and after the fall of El Fasher to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan on 23 October. Since the powerful paramilitary group made a major incursion into the city last week, the UN Human Rights Office has received “horrendous accounts of summary executions, mass killings, rapes, attacks against humanitarian workers, looting, abductions and forced displacement,” said Seif Magango, spokesperson for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
