La livraison d'aide par quai flottant commence mais est moins viable que les routes terrestres, selon l'OCHA
Des camions transportant de l'aide humanitaire vers Gaza ont commencé à débarquer via le quai flottant temporaire construit par l'armée américaine, a annoncé le Commandement central des États-Unis - mais cela ne suffit pas à répondre aux besoins des civils à Gaza, déclare l'ONU.
Le Bureau de la coordination des affaires humanitaires des Nations Unies (OCHA) a averti que le corridor maritime ne peut pas remplacer les importantes routes terrestres, qui sont le moyen le plus rapide et le plus efficace de livrer l'aide humanitaire.
“Toute aide entrant à Gaza est la bienvenue par n'importe quelle route,” a déclaré Jens Laerke, porte-parole de l'OCHA aux journalistes à Genève. “Mais c'est un ajout, et cela ne change pas le fait que les passages terrestres seront plus importants,” a-t-il ajouté.
Le quai flottant a été ancré sur une plage de Gaza hier, jeudi 16 mai. Avec la plupart des points de passage vers l'enclave fermés ou dangereux, le quai flottant temporaire fournira un chemin supplémentaire pour l'aide entrant dans l'enclave assiégée.
M. Laerke a déclaré que les agences de l'ONU finalisent leurs plans de préparation pour gérer l'aide une fois que le quai flottant sera pleinement opérationnel, en gardant à l'esprit la nécessité d'assurer la sécurité du personnel. “La sensibilisation et l'acceptation de la communauté sont primordiales pour assurer la sécurité de cette opération,” a-t-il insisté. “Nous sommes reconnaissants pour les efforts de Chypre, soutenus par d'autres États membres, pour maintenir ce corridor maritime comme une route supplémentaire pour l'aide à Gaza. Cependant, acheminer l'aide aux personnes dans le besoin à Gaza ne peut et ne doit pas dépendre d'un quai flottant loin des endroits où les besoins sont les plus aigus. Les routes terrestres sont le moyen de livraison d'aide le plus viable, efficace et efficient, c'est pourquoi nous avons besoin que tous les points de passage soient ouverts.”
Les livraisons d'aide à la bande de Gaza ont ralenti depuis que l'armée israélienne a pris le contrôle du passage de Rafah la semaine dernière. Environ 2,2 millions de Palestiniens ont désespérément besoin de nourriture, d'abris et d'autres aides.
