      Nous avons besoin que la COP29 mobilise des milliers de milliards – et non des milliards – de dollars en financement climatique pour maintenir l'augmentation de la température moyenne mondiale en dessous de 1,5 degré Celsius, et pour catalyser des engagements climatiques nationaux plus ambitieux,” a déclaré l'orateur des droits de l'homme de l'ONU, Jeremy Laurance, lors du point de presse bihebdomadaire à Genève.

      Nous devrions nous attendre – et exiger – que ceux qui ont le plus contribué au changement climatique jusqu'à présent paient davantage. Ceux qui sont le plus touchés par le changement climatique doivent avoir les fonds nécessaires pour renforcer leur résilience au changement climatique ainsi qu'un accès à des recours efficaces,” a-t-il déclaré.

      Ce sont des priorités urgentes en matière de droits de l'homme. Cela rend d'autant plus préoccupant le manque de progrès perceptible sur de nombreuses questions vitales jusqu'à présent à la COP29, et même certains efforts pour revenir en arrière sur le langage des droits de l'homme précédemment convenu,” a ajouté Laurance.

      Le Haut-Commissaire des Nations Unies aux droits de l'homme souligne que les négociations de la COP29 concernent notre avenir collectif. Le choix est clair – rester sur la trajectoire actuelle dévastatrice pour la planète et l'humanité ou travailler pour une transition rapide, équitable et juste vers des économies et des sociétés durables avec les droits de l'homme en leur cœur,” a souligné Laurance.
