“La nuit dernière, les manifestations ont continué dans la capitale, Tbilissi, et les forces de police ont utilisé des gaz lacrymogènes et des canons à eau pour disperser les manifestants devant le bâtiment du parlement,” a déclaré l'Orateur du Bureau des droits de l'homme de l'ONU, Jeremy Laurence, lors du point de presse bimensuel de l'ONU à Genève, mardi.
Le Bureau des droits de l'homme de l'ONU avait publié un communiqué détaillé sur la situation lundi soir.
“Nous réitérons l'appel du Haut-Commissaire des Nations Unies aux droits de l'homme, Volker Türk, aux autorités géorgiennes pour qu'elles respectent et protègent les droits aux libertés d'expression et de réunion pacifique,” a déclaré Laurence.
“L'utilisation de la force inutile ou disproportionnée contre les manifestants et les travailleurs des médias est extrêmement préoccupante. Toute utilisation de la force par le personnel de sécurité doit rester une exception et se conformer aux principes de légalité, de nécessité, de proportionnalité, de précaution et de non-discrimination,” a déclaré l'orateur.
“Tous les Géorgiens, de tout le spectre politique, devraient pouvoir exprimer librement et pacifiquement leurs opinions sur l'avenir de leur pays,” a conclu Laurence.
