GAZA: Le ciblage de Rafah pourrait conduire à un massacre, avertissent les humanitaires de l'ONU
Les humanitaires de l'ONU ont averti vendredi que si une opération terrestre de l'armée israélienne se produisait à Rafah, cela pourrait conduire à un "massacre" dans la partie sud de la bande de Gaza.
"Les centaines de milliers de personnes qui s'y trouvent seraient en danger immédiat de mort s'il y a une attaque", a déclaré Jens Laerke, porte-parole du Bureau de la coordination des affaires humanitaires (OCHA) de l'ONU, lors d'un briefing médiatique aux Nations Unies à Genève. "Si cela se produit, ce que le Coordinateur des secours d'urgence a averti pourrait être un massacre de civils, mais aussi en même temps un coup incroyable à l'opération humanitaire dans toute la bande, car elle est principalement gérée depuis Rafah."
Rafah est considérée comme le cœur des opérations humanitaires à Gaza - le point de transbordement pour l'aide arrivant dans la bande de Gaza via les passages de Rafah et de Kerem Shalom. C'est là que des dizaines d'organisations d'aide stockent les fournitures qu'elles livrent aux civils à travers la bande de Gaza, telles que la nourriture, l'eau, la santé, l'assainissement et les articles d'hygiène.
Alors que l'Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) et ses partenaires élaborent des plans de contingence pour garantir que le système de santé puisse continuer à fournir des soins, les experts en santé considèrent cela comme une goutte d'eau par rapport aux besoins réels. "Ce plan de contingence est un pansement. Il ne préviendra absolument pas la mortalité et la morbidité supplémentaires attendues causées par une opération militaire", a déclaré le Dr Rik Peeperkorn, représentant de l'OMS pour le territoire palestinien occupé.
Les enfants gravement malnutris continuent d'avoir besoin de traitement, malgré certaines améliorations dans le flux d'aide alimentaire, selon l'OMS. "Au 20 avril, [...] vous avez déjà 46 cas de malnutrition aiguë sévère avec des complications, donc ils ont été admis dans les centres de stabilisation de la malnutrition aiguë sévère", a déclaré le Dr Peeperkorn.
Interrogé sur les fosses communes découvertes à l'hôpital Nasser et à l'hôpital Al Shifa, le Dr Peeperkorn a souligné que l'OMS n'a pas de capacités d'enquête criminelle.
