“La reanudación de las hostilidades en Gaza es catastrófica. Insto a todas las partes y Estados con influencia sobre ellas a redoblar esfuerzos, de inmediato, para garantizar un alto el fuego, por razones humanitarias y de derechos humanos,” dijo Shamdasani.
“Los recientes comentarios de líderes políticos y militares israelíes indicando que planean expandir e intensificar la ofensiva militar son muy preocupantes,”dijo.
Desde el 7 de octubre, miles de palestinos han sido asesinados en Gaza, según el Ministerio de Salud en Gaza. Ahora, otros enfrentan el mismo destino. Otros corren el riesgo de ser desplazados por la fuerza a partes de Gaza que ya están severamente superpobladas e insalubres.
“La situación está más allá del punto de crisis,” dijo.
Según el derecho internacional humanitario, Israel, como potencia ocupante, está obligado a garantizar que se satisfagan las necesidades básicas de la población en Gaza, como alimentos, agua y atención médica.
“Recordamos a todas las partes su obligación de permitir y facilitar el paso rápido e ininterrumpido de ayuda humanitaria para civiles necesitados en toda Gaza,” dijo Shamdasani.
“El camino a seguir debe ser a través de un fin inmediato a la violencia, la liberación rápida e incondicional de todos los rehenes restantes, el cese del lanzamiento de cohetes indiscriminados y el uso de armas explosivas con efectos de amplia área en zonas pobladas, ayuda humanitaria acorde con la inmensa necesidad y acceso rápido e ininterrumpido, un fin a las prácticas de detención arbitraria por parte de Israel y medidas concretas para evitar un desastre adicional, basadas en el pleno respeto y protección de los derechos humanos de palestinos e israelíes,” dijo el portavoz.
