“La reprise des hostilités à Gaza est catastrophique. J'exhorte toutes les parties et les États ayant une influence sur elles à redoubler d'efforts, immédiatement, pour garantir un cessez-le-feu - pour des raisons humanitaires et de droits de l'homme,” a déclaré Shamdasani.
“Les récents commentaires des dirigeants politiques et militaires israéliens indiquant qu'ils envisagent d'élargir et d'intensifier l'offensive militaire sont très préoccupants,”a-t-elle déclaré.
Depuis le 7 octobre, des milliers de Palestiniens ont été tués à Gaza, selon le ministère de la Santé de Gaza. D'autres risquent maintenant de subir le même sort. D'autres risquent d'être déplacés de force vers des zones déjà gravement surpeuplées et insalubres de Gaza.
“La situation dépasse le stade de la crise,” a-t-elle déclaré.
Conformément au droit international humanitaire, Israël en tant que puissance occupante, est tenu de veiller à ce que les besoins fondamentaux de la population de Gaza, tels que la nourriture, l'eau et les soins médicaux, soient satisfaits.
“Nous rappelons à toutes les parties leur obligation de permettre et de faciliter le passage rapide et sans entrave de l'aide humanitaire aux civils dans le besoin, partout dans Gaza,” a déclaré Shamdasani.
“La voie à suivre doit passer par la fin immédiate de la violence, la libération rapide et inconditionnelle de tous les otages restants, la cessation des tirs de roquettes indiscriminés et l'utilisation d'armes explosives à large effet dans les zones peuplées, une aide humanitaire à la hauteur des besoins immenses et un accès rapide et sans entrave, la fin des pratiques de détention arbitraire par Israël, et des mesures concrètes pour éviter une nouvelle catastrophe, fondées sur le plein respect et la protection des droits de l'homme des Palestiniens et des Israéliens,” a déclaré le porte-parole.
